Here Are 9 INSANE Everyday Distilled Water Uses

Before discussing 9 unique distilled water uses, let’s face it because it’s a fact, every single human being needs water to live. While it is possible to go without food for several weeks, you can’t last more than a few days without water.

This fact is explained by Randall K. Packer, a professor from George Washington University. According to him, the absolute maximum time that a human being can live without drinking water and proper hydration is approximately 1 week.

However, there are some that dispute this slightly and claim that it’s a very generous estimate.

For instance, Claude Piantadosi from Duke University says that 3-4 days is a lot more realistic. This is because the quality of life sharply reduces after day 3 of no water. Some people will be unable to move their body at day 3 of dehydration.

In a Fox News interview, professor Piantadosi says, “You can go 100 hours without drinking at an average temperature outdoors. If it’s cooler, you can go a little longer. If you are exposed to direct sunlight, it’s less.”

In any case, the bottom line here is that going without water for even a short period of time will kill you. If you’re lucky, it might only cause a severe decline in the quality of your life but this can later lead to health complications.

Now that we have established that hydration is a fundamental human need, it is also a vital need for other things too. Especially clean filtered water that is bacteria and contaminant free.

Some of these things might already be very obvious to you, however, I’m sure at least 1 or 2 on this list may also surprise you.

1. Filtered Purified Water For Fish Tanks

This makes a lot of sense when you consider that fish spend their whole life in water. Dirty contaminated water can cause fish to be unwell, or in extreme cases lead them to die. That’s why you need to regularly clean out your fish tank.

Aquariums can very easily be contaminated with all sorts of things like debris, ammonia and nitrites.

So it is important to regularly remove the fish from the tank and clean out the tank to maintain the well being of your fish. You should do this very carefully so as to not traumatize your fish.

Do you want to avoid all of these regular fish tank cleaning? Are you really worried about how much the cleaning process traumatizes your fish? Get an aquarium water filter.

You might already be familiar with specialist water filters that you can put inside the tank itself. But do you know that external fish tank water filters also exist?

However, whatever type of fish water filter you use, there is only one important thing to remember. You need to always keep the aquarium water clean and filtered. Doing this will not only make your fish remain healthy and happy, it will also improve their quality of life.

2. Distilled Water For Medical Use

Everyone knows that conducting surgery and any type of wound care means that the highest form of sanitary conditions are needed. In fact, not just sanitary but things need to be sterile.

This is why any type of water that you use during these situations need to be completely bacteria and contaminant free.

Surgeons, doctors and ambulance workers always have distilled water to hand. Although they prefer to call it “sterile water” and it’s often used for cleaning and dressing wounds.

Also, any sort of surgery requires the medical staff to wash their hands very carefully. This usually involves the surgeons and nursing staff to wash their hands (ideally in filtered water). They typically run their hands under clean water for at least 1 minute.

3. Swimming Pools Use Water Treatment Systems

When you really think about it, swimming pools are gross. A bunch of people covered in all sorts of bacteria, faecal matter and germs lounging in water together. This is the case even if they have a shower beforehand. Human beings are a breeding ground for all sorts of icky microorganisms. Eww.

This is before you consider the fact that some people may “accidentally” pee in the pool or release all sorts of other human excrements. Double ewww.

Most commercial and public swimming pools get around this by using chlorine, which is pretty effective at keeping the water clean.

However, if you’ve ever used a chlorinated pool then you know this can sometimes cause as many problems as it solves.

For instance, chlorine can make your skin very dry and this is a really big issue if you already have very dry skin. It also fills the air with chemicals that are not so good to breathe in for an extended period of time.

You need swimming pool filters and pumps to properly filter a pool without these issues. And there are many other types of pool systems on the market today.

4. Filtered Purified Distilled Water For Hydroponic Plants

Hydroponics is a way of growing plants without soil. Several mineral nutrients are used instead of soil. It is possible to grow terrestrial plants in their roots in this type of mineral nutrient mix. Failing that, it’s also possible to grow them in other non-moving platform such as gravel or perlite.

You can also grow terrestrial plants in their own roots or other types of stationary mediums like gravel. This is why a this section of hydroculture is often referred to as “soil-less gardening.”

If you’re considering growing hydroponic plants then one of the most important things you must consider is the quality of the water you use.

Experts say that you need to use good quality purified or filtered water from the very start. Simply relying on other water sources like rain water stream water, well water or even water from the tap may potentially cause problems for hydroponic plants. This is because any water that contains harmful minerals like pathogens, fungi and even small traces of salt can be very toxic to hydroponic plants.

5. Filtered Purified Distilled Water For Car Engines

This is obvious to any car owner or driver who has ever looked under the car bonnet. You typically need to use water to help your cars’ cooling system thereby making it operate better.

The engine of your car produces a lot of heat when the car is running. You therefore need to use some sort of cooling liquid which is typically a mixture of antifreeze and water.

Using this will help to prevent engine damage as well as further vehicle issues that can one day lead to breakdown.

But the cars’ cooling system can operate much smoother if you use clean filtered water in the engine.

The last thing you want to do is use water that has lurking minerals that may cause corrosion in your engine.

Some car owners also use filtered water to wash their cars. This is because many areas suffer from hard water and using hard water on your car’s exterior can lead to limescale stains.

If you don’t want any possible future corrosion in your car engine or white limescale spots on the exterior, use clean filtered water for your car.

6. “Aqua” Ingredient In Cosmetics

This might sound very strange but most cosmetic products including makeup and moisturiser use purified water.

Have you ever read the ingredients label and seen something listed as “aqua”? This is referring to water, specifically filtered purified water.

Cosmetic products use very clean filtered water to make sure there aren’t any unwanted substances in your product.

This is because it is important for your cosmetics to be free of all bacteria and chemicals (like chlorine). Ensuring this is the case means that the products’ produce the desired outcome and achieve their intended objectives.

The water of choice is usually distilled water as this is one of the purest and cleanest forms of water available.

7. Filtered Purified Distilled Water For Humidifiers

Humidifiers are useful for a number of different purposes in the home. Some of them include:

  • help preventing dry skin
  • good for maintaining tropical houseplants
  • humidifiers are known for improving sinus or allergy problems you might have
  • also good at helping your home’s HVAC heating system.

Whatever you use them for, humidifiers need consistent maintenance and regular care. In this regard it’s always important to read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

However, if you want your humidifier to work better and last longer, you should use high quality, clean filtered water. Aside from making the machine work longer, it can also help safeguard your health if you use the humidifier for medical reasons.

Before using filtered water, make sure you read the directions set out by the manufacturer. In most cases, you will find that even the makers of the device recommends that you use filtered or distilled water to maintain the product.

The important thing is that you try to avoid as much as possible to use anything other than clean water. Using dirty water can mean that you release and spread bacteria and harmful microorganisms into the air.

8. Filtered Purified Distilled Water For The Laboratory

It is important for labs to maintain the integrity of their scientific and medical research. Therefore technicians, scientists and post grad students must adhere to the highest standards of cleanliness.

As a result, they typically use filtered water to clean lab equipment like flasks and beakers.

Also, there are only certain types of highly distilled purified water allowed to be used in chemical experiments.

According to the “Chemical Blog” online, there is only a specific type of purified water preferred by most laboratories. It is called type IV purified water, which is autoclaved purified water and this means it is sterile.

9. Filtered Purified Distilled Water For Pets

Let’s for 1 second try to put aside how incredibly cute and adorable our pets are. What do you give them to drink? There are many pet owners who think it’s perfectly OK to give their pets tap water.

Although it might be OK for human beings to drink tap water, your dog or cat’s physiology is quite different. In fact, did you know that there is a CDC (Center for Disease Control & Prevention) research study that highlights just some of the problems?

For instance, tap water is often purified with chlorine. This is a necessary evil because it’s a cheap and relatively effective way of purifying water.

However, dogs can sense the presence of chlorine in water and they don’t like it. That’s why you often find that dogs prefer to drink toilet water then tap water.

Filtered water on the other hand does not contain any of these chemical substances and your dog will thank you for it.

Giving your pets clean fresh filtered drinking water is also a good option for those pet owners that don’t want to take anything to chance. Especially as some animals are very sensitive to bacteria and contaminated water.

Distilled Water Uses In Everyday Life

Aside from clean air, fresh drinking water is one of the few natural resources that you literally can’t live without. It’s essential to the life of every human being. But there are other living creatures and everyday processes that need clean water just as much as you do.Mr Water Geek Thinking

There is a long list of distilled water uses for things in everyday life.

So many things need clean filtered water such as plants, pets, aquariums, swimming pools, humidifiers and even your motor vehicle.mrwatergeek winner badge

Although it’s possible to use normal everyday tap water for these things, using filtered water is a much safer bet.

This is because any contaminated water can potentially devastate your home, health, appliances and even your pets.

This is one situation where the quality of your water can also reflect on the quality of your life.
